I am a home health nurse and i have a Dialysis Pt that has elevated Potassium levels between her Dialysis treatments, usually between fridays and mondays. She also has severe Aortic stenosis and is to have a valve replacement, she is cont. being hospitalized about every 2 weeks due to her heart stopping with a potassium level at or above 6.4, is there a medication I need to ask the MD about that she might be able to take?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I suggest you to ask about Patiromer drug which can be used for lowering potassium levels & IV glucose and insulin may also help but check up with the patient sugar levels. I also suggest you to check about the cardiac drugs and other drugs which your patient is taking that may cause increased potassium level.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Indhu Priyadharshini
