How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?

My BP averages (I take it daily) around 140-150 over 85 to 95 - pulse 55 resting. ... I run 5 times a week, for 30 minutes (3 miles) ... but my BP will jump up to 170 and even today 182 over 100 periodically. I used to take Lisinopril (10mg daily), but side affects became too problematic. I am 63, 5 4 , 150 lbs. I drink a six pack a week, a couple cups of coffee a day, .. cant seem to get my BP down to something less worrisome.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You have a consistently high resting BP on most days. You can also include a 30 min brisk walk or swimming; reduce the salt intake in your diet.
If these do not work, you need to take treatment. You had side effects from Lisinopril but there are many other medications you could try. You can consider Amlodipine daily to start with but please consult your doctor as you have not mentioned what side effects you had from Lisinopril.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Shilpi Kulshreshtha
