How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?

I am on HCTZ 12.5mg/Losartan 100mg tablet for high blood pressure once a day. My BP the last two days has been in the 155/87 range. I saw my care provider yesterday and she said that I should call Monday if things did not improve and she would give my another medication to help lower my BP. My question is: in the meantime can I take an additional HCTZ (etc) during the day?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there I have read through your question and understand your concern. HCTZ is a diuretic and Losartan is an angiotensin receptor antagonist blocker and both are effective in controlling blood pressure. HCTZ can be given upto a maximum dose of 25 mg in a day. Though it can be taken twice daily in a dose of 12.5 I would advise you to consult your physician before increasing the dose. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
