How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Level Be Treated?

my blood pressure was up to 185/118. I took a 20mg lisinopril. 2 hours ago. It is now 156/120. Could I take another lisinopril now? I saw my doctor today and all was fine. I had 2 stents put in 2 years ago. I am 66 yrs old, female. No other health issues.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Until hypertensive emergency (that is when your brain stops working properly and you may be confused or you have problems with your vision like blurring, etc) we do not need to drop blood pressure urgently. It should be dripped to normal in days (except in an above-mentioned emergency) so if you are feeling okay don't worry. No need to take another pill. Continue with this for few days.

Keep checking your blood pressure and discuss with your physician to increase the dose of your pill or add another drug. As you mentioned you had two stents so talking to your primary doctor who put the stents would be very good as he may add another few drugs that help your blood pressure and help with narrowing of your vessels as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman
