How Can Dryness And Inflammation On The Skin Be Treated While Suffering From Hypothyroidism?

A friend called to ask me about her symptoms to see if i could be of help. she is 78, hypothyroid, has very dry skin which flakes and peels, skin gets inflamed and itchy, I felt it was needing more attention to inner cell health than just the skin issue.
Do you have any thoughts on what might help her nutritional health, or a direction to go for answers? Her drs have not been of help to her.

Hi,

Dry skin that gets infected easily can be a symptom of hypothyroidism. If your friend was my patient,i will ask to do the thyroid tests to understand her actual thyroid function and to start or adjust(if she actually take a thyroid medication) the hormone replacement therapy.About your question.,i can say that Foods alone won’t cure hypothyroidism.

However, a combination of the right nutrients and medication can help restore thyroid function and minimize your friend's symptoms. My advice is to add in her daily diet foods that contain Iodine, selenium and zinc that are essential for the thyroid gland health.

So,there are plently of food options like:eggs, meat, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy and gluten-free grains and seeds: Rice, buckwheat, quinoa, chia seeds and flaxseed.

Hope I have answered your query.
