How Can Dry Skin Be Treated?

Hello, I ve been thinking about how I could achieve a nice tan for a long period. I ve thought about tanning beds but I m aware they increase chances tremendously to get skin cancer, so what would be the best way for me to achieve my goal? Also, I have very dry skin and tried to use lotion, but it always made me feel very sticky and I hate that feeling which caused me to stop taking it. Is there any lotion out there that helps with very dry skin?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per you query you have severe dry skin which is pointing towards a condition known as sunburn or photo allergic dermatitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to wash your skin with cold water and dry it properly. Apply cold compresses at least 2-3 times a day. Take antihisamine drug like Benadryl. Apply broad spectrum sunscreen such as TANCARE to face all the times. Apply vitamin C serum at night. If condition doesn't improve in a week then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe steroid ointment and retinoids. Doctor may also prescribe antibiotics in case of skin infection or antifungal.
