Coughing in kids might be related to many reasons like infection or inflammation of the respiratory tract. Allergy Asthma Heart or lung disease. I am not in favour of giving him repeatedly a course of antibiotics, In my opinion you should go for certain investigations to find out offending factor for cough like X ray chest, Blood investigation like CBC, CRP, ESR, sputum microscopy.
I would advise you to give him cough syrup for cough and anti-allergic like Levocetirizine or Fexofenadine. Azelastinenasal spray if it is associated with running nose and sneezing. You can give him honey mixed with ginger juice as a home remedy. If he can comfortably do, than encourage him to do gargling with warm saline water.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question and I will be happy to help you.
Best wishes, Dr. B R Hudda
