How Can Dry And Itchy Skin Be Treated?

I have extremely dry itchy skin. was diagnosed with extreme case of eczema over the past summer but with the dry winter weather... driving me nuts. wakes me up at night scratching and it hurts. what is the best I can do. I take short cool showers, changed all soaps, lotions etc to fragrance and color free. lotion up as much as is possible. should I go back to the dermotologists?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have dry and itching skin with eczema tendency and you had tried many things to prevent, only few things remain which are:

- Find and avoid contact with allergens (clothes, cosmetics, exposure to very hot or very cold), avoid friction due to tight/hard garments
- Ample use of suitable moisturizer
- Use humidifier in dry winters
- Consulting dermatologist for treating existing lesions
- Drink sufficient water
- Vitamin A/E supplements, if needed

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
