How Can Chronic Cough And Low Grade Fever Be Treated?
I am 63 female, with a forced cough for 36 hours. I have no voice. Fever is low grade, but not sleeping due to cough and frequency of urination. As I am drinking a lot of tea and water. Not much appetite. Should I go to the dr or ride it out? Also some sinus congestion, but not too bad.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your query your symptoms of chronic cough and low grade fever which is because of common flu viral infection and could be respiratory tract infection due to poor immunity as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist for proper examination. Doctor may order chest X-ray, sputum tests, and pulmonary function test, and blood test to rule out sinusitis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics, cough suppressants, inhaler, and other medications to reduce inflammation and open narrowed passages in lungs. You should take steam thrice a day and take iBuprofen or Acetaminophen for pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
