My 35 year old daughter has a chronic cough, sometimes it s heavier than others, she says it s the air, she is loosing her hair (slowly), she gets frequent ear aches and sore throat, she is constantly tired. She says they never see anything on her lungs when she gets her lungs checked at the free clinic, she is not sexually active. and her teeth are shifting, she does not smoke, or do any kind of drugs, she works with children.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The most common reasons for chronic cough are:

(1) Upper airway syndrome which used to be called post nasal drip syndrome. This is the most common reason, 1 out of 5 persons are not aware of the drip itself
(2) GERD- Reflux is another common cause
(3) Asthma
(4) Non eosinophilic bronchitis

She can be assessed for one of these; treatment depends on the cause found. Blood tests would be needed for the hair loss example, complete blood count, and thyroid function.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
