How Can Chronic Cold And Sore Throat Be Treated?

Hi , I have a bad head cold for the last 5 days and its not clearing. Sore throat, ears , eyes, head and sinuses are particularly bad. My nasal discharge varies from dark green in the morning to yellow. I would rather not get an antibiotic if can be avoided. I have been taking uni flu tablets and paracetamol for the last 5 days. If I were to continue with sinutab, nasal spray and throat tablets , should that be sufficient to avoid getting antibiotics or having to visit my GP . Thanks

hi sir/madam,
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.

Natural Remedies:-
1. Honey:-

Honey mixed in tea or taken on its own is a common household remedy for a sore throat. One study found that honey was even more effective at taming nighttime coughs than common cough suppressants. Other researchshows that honey is an effective wound healer, which means it may help speed healing for sore throats.

2. Salt water:-

Gargling with warm salt water can help soothe a sore throat and break down secretions. It’s also known to help kill bacteria in the throat. Make a saltwater solution with a half-teaspoon of salt in a full glass of warm water. Gargle it to help reduce swelling and keep the throat clean. This should be done every three hours.

3. Baking soda gargle:-

While the saltwater gargle is more commonly used, gargling baking soda mixed with salt water can help relieve a sore throat as well. Gargling this solution can kill bacteria and prevent the growth of yeast and fungi.

4.Apple cider vinegar:-

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has many natural antibacterial uses. Numerous studies show its antimicrobial effects in fighting infections. Because of its acidic nature, it can be used to help break down mucus in the throat and stop bacteria from spreading.

5.Garlic:-

Garlic also has natural antibacterial properties. It contains allicin, an organosulfer compound known for its ability to fight off infections.

6.Luke-warm water:-

Drink luke-warm water frequently as it helps in fighting against common cold, cough and sore throat. Warm water reduces inflammation in the throat and helps in replenishing the fluids and infection out of the body.

7.Milk and turmeric:-

An essential ingredient found in almost all Indian kitchens, turmeric has a strong antioxidant which helps in treating many health problems. Turmeric mixed in warm milk is a popular and effective way to fight against cold and cough. Drinking a glass of warm turmeric milk before sleeping helps in faster recovery from cold and cough.

8.Ginger and salt:-

Cut ginger into small pieces and add salt to it. Chew these ginger pieces to fight cold, cough and a sore throat.

Hope i was helpful.
Have a healthy day.
