How Can Chills Along With Joint Ache And Headache Be Treated?

I am a healthy 50 year old 73 inches 220 athletic build and former Ironman triathlete who took a 10 year break. I recently began swimming again in a chlorine lap pool, running and biking. in the last month I have been extremely sick following a moderate run and a swim. Flu like symptoms - chills, extreme joint pain, kidney pain, severe headache. No symptoms of runny nose, rash or itching. Once resulting in a trip to the emergency room where all blood work was normal and a flu test was negative. I am sick once again with he same symptoms. What is wrong with me?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, the baseline blood work up may need to be repeated along with some baseline autoimmune work up like rheumatoid factor as well as ANA alongside inflammatory markers like ESR and CRP. Meanwhile Analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used. However the symptoms may also warrant need of a rheumatologist review.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
