My husband has a congested cough now for 4 days. He has been coughing up lots of green phlem. He started with a fever on Wednesday for a couple of days but doesn t have any today. He does However now have both eyes with drainage coming from them and red and irritated as well. Please give me Advice if he needs to been seen by a physician or if like he thinks, he is on the down hill side of this. Thank you, Sheri
1. with symptoms of green phlegm, nasal congestion, and pressure in sinus cavities it probably could be a bacterial infection thus following should be your approach:
i. check with a Chest specialist [pulmonologist] for necessary examination and investigations like . Hb%, WBC for eosinophilia . X-ray chest for TB, Pneumonia . If other investigations are normal, HIV test [as routine]
ii. The choice of antibiotic will vary from doctor to doctor, and from locality to locality
PS. Consult an ENT specialist [for quick visual examination of the throat] and for any necessary investigation(s)
