How Can Bursitis In Knees And Hips Be Treated?

Ive been diagnosed with bursitis in my knees and hips (personally not convinced this is the problem!) and at the moment the only relief I get is from ibuprofen in tablet form. It s a long term problem and I was hoping for a suggestion as to an alternative that doesn t involve tablets eg. Spray, gel, etc. Had injections in my hip but the pain is as bad as ever.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may want to consider the use of Voltaren gel which has been shown to be helpful for pain relief. In addition, the use of physiotherapy to help strengthen the muscles around the affected joints may also be helpful. In some people, the use of special shoes or additives to shoes can also help as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
