Hello,
Asthma is a common cause of
wheezing and coughing. Many times it occurs in patients with a family history of
eczema,
hay fever, or asthma.
The cough/wheezing of asthma is brought on by exercise, emotion(laughing, crying), colds, and eating/drinking cold foods/drinks. Many times it happens during the night.
The two main disease processes of asthma are bronchoconstriction(the bronchial tubes of the lungs become narrow) and inflammation(mucus, blood cells, proteins build up within bronchial tubes).
These cause the patient to have difficulty moving air in and out of the lungs.
You relate that
steroids were part of your treatment. These drugs are for the inflammation. Did you receive a bronchodilator? The most frequently prescribed bronchodilator is
albuterol.
Since you remain symptomatic without a diagnosis, you need to get further medical evaluation and treatment as soon as possible.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
