How Can Breathing Difficulty And Pneumonia Be Treated?

My mom is 83 & was having trouble breathing. I took her to the DR & they determined she had pneumonia. They treated her for 2 days with antibiotics through IV & then sent her home with a script to continue antibiotics at home for 5 more days. Did they send her home from hospital prematurely?? And is pneumonia contagious??

Antibiotics are the main line of treatment for pneumonia.
Elder pneumonia patients tend to have more complications when they get pneumonia. That is why they should be admitted to the hospital. But once their condition start to stabilize and their breathing become normal, they can be safely discharged from the hospital and continue antibiotics at home. I think they did not discharge your mother early. Pneumonia is not contagious after 24 hours of antibiotics.
