Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When testing blood glucose with a meter and test strips, why would each hand give a different reading? I pricked my left middle finger and got a 133, just out of curiosity I checked my right middle finger also and got a reading of 148. Makes me wonder how to trust any reading now.
Sugar reading with glucometer are not greatly accurate and little difference in readings are common. However, the difference mostly is not gross to make any difference.
We generally recommend checking the readings of glucometer once every 1 to 2 months with standard lab readings, if they are grossly different we may need to check the glucometer or change cells. Little difference is not worrisome.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
