How Can Blood Pressure Levels Be Kept Under Control?

I have been on BP meds for a long time. Today I took 2 Advil....later felt bad and read the bottle that it contains a lot of sodium. Now my BP is staying high at around 157/101; but it fluctuates with this home machine I have. I last took my 80mg Valsartan at 7:00 am this morning....can I or should I go ahead and take another one now?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned you may take a combined pill like Atenolol+Amlodipine but start 1 tablet and regarding this you can discuss with your primary care doctor. Regarding BP get check-up done. I may suggest you to utilize an arm machine where reading will be very precise. You require some lifestyle changes for medication to be efficacious which are as below:

• Eat a healthier diet with less salt
• Do exercise conventionally like morning walk up to 1 hour
• Try to lose weight at least 5%
• Try to avoid alcohol and smoking if you have any bad habit
• Do meditation to manage stress at home
• Garlic contains a natural substance called as Allicin, which avails to lower hypertension by relaxing blood vessels. Garlic may affect lipid profiles lowering cholesterol by about 10%. So discuss with your doctor about including natural herbs such as garlic to combat high blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
