How Can Anxiety Along With Depression And Anger Be Treated?

my 17 yr old son has been on concerta since kindergarten. ADHD is still only mildly controlled. Now he has anxiety, depression, and anger also. we tried adding wellbutrin - did not help. Now trying intuniv - not sure if it is helping. he takes it along with the concerta. should i try the intuniv alone? Should we try more of a zoloft addition?

Hello,
I think your son needs to assessed for the reason behind anxiety, depression and anger. If the symptoms are secondarily due to ADHD, then waiting for few weeks after adding intuniv (guanfacine) is required. As Intuniv helps in ADHD, the associated symptoms can also improve.
If depression symptoms are isolated, zoloft (sertraline) can be started. But Zoloft has significant interaction with Intuniv and has to be monitored closely. I would suggest an alternate like Prozac (fluoxetine) that doesn't have that interaction over Zoloft.
I hope the above information helps you. You can discus the above information with your prescriber. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
