How Can An Upper Respiratory Tract Infection Be Treated?

Hi, I ve felt like I ve been fighting off a cold for the past 5-7 days. I ve had a lot of phlegm, and for the past 2-3 days, when I cough up the mucus or when I blow my nose, it s yellow. (This has almost gone away now, though; today it was clear 99% of the time.) All day today, I ve been very thirsty, but I m not sure if it s because my throat is dry from constantly trying to cough up the phlegm. Also, I m not sure, but I think I can feel the cold in the top of my chest a little bit periodically. Is this something I need to go to the doctor for, or should I just continue to drink lots of fluids and take it easy? Thanks, Julie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history and symptoms, it is look like an upper respiratory tract infection.

You can take tablet Azithromycin, tablet Cheston cold, syrup Trustyl Br after consultation. You can also take syrup Mucaine gel for acidity. Along with that do steam inhalation and warm water or betadine gargling 3 to 4 times a day.

Keep yourself hydrated, maintain proper hygiene and go for x-ray chest. I will suggest you to follow up with detailed history or consult with chest physician with reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
