My husband had to go out of town to work. While packing, he dropped the suit case on his big toe and it started bleeding from almost all the way down near the bottom and blood was coming out the top. The entire toenail had blood under it but it was still attached near the base. He s been working for 2 days now and tonight he said when he took his sock off he said there was a lot of what looked like water coming out from under the nail, it s sore today and it s starting to turn color. we re concerned about infection since it s leaking. Since he s out of town and has to work and wear work boots all day, is there anything he can do?
Generally, we recommend washing the nail with clean water and soap. You can also use some anti septic . Most of the times with wash it would heal in few days.
We advise a wash once or twice a day then apply clear loose bandage just to cover it. Avoid tight shoes for a few days. change of colour does occur with it.
Hopes it would settle with it. If he feels high-grade fever, or there is more discharge or increasing swelling and redness, then he can see a doctor for antibiotics. Generally, it's not needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
