How Can An Injured Achilles Tendon Be Treated?

I severed the tendon behind my Achilles heel that will require day surgery to see together - however being a diabetic K have some neuropathy in my left foot. Is it wise to go ahead with the surgery and can the surgery affect the nerves in my foot making the neuropathy worse
