How Can An Infected Nipple Piercing Be Treated?

Hi, I have an old prescription for betnovate cream for some form of dermatitis, the condition is very mild, I only use once maybe twice per year. I have used it on my chest, I also have a nipple piercing, which is still healing. Some of the cream has, over the course of the day, with sweat etc come into contact with the piercing. Now it is pussing and some blood is coming out. This has never happened before, never bled before, only yellow residue in the first month after piercing. Do I need to worry about this cream coming into contact with what is an essentially an open wound? It s ok on second thoughts I will go and waste my gps time with this, I don t have to pay him for the privilege

Hi,

The description you have given suggestive of infection at the piercing site.

As of now, you can apply topical antibiotics like Mupirocin for symptomatic relief.

If the infection persists better to consult a general practitioner and start on oral antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
