General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is an abnormal connection between the blood vessels of the brain. If caught early, it can be treated with good prognosis. However, if this connection has ruptured or burst, it can cause massive bleeding and cut off blood supply to that part of the brain. The brain can swell up and cause compression and pressure over vital areas of the brain leading to coma.

If there is no brain activity, it is a very bad sign and chances of recovery are nil. If however, there is evidence of neurological activity, the prognosis is better. However, the duration of recovery cannot be predicted as nerves take a long time to recover. Over time, other organs can fail due to being bedridden and infections. Please talk to your relative's doctor about this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
