How Can Allergic Reaction To Blood Pressure Medication Be Treated?

Am taking blood pressure Med s and have a history of developing allergic reaction to Med s after several years of taking them. Have lately had serious itching 20-30 minutes after taking latest bp Med s which has increased in severity over last week. Initially thought itching was due to highly chlorinated pool in which I swim 5 days per week. However, itching was SOOOOO intense yesterday that I did not take Med s today. Will call dr tomorrow. Was this best way of dealing with this problem?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should say what drugs you use by naming it. However usually the group of ACHE inhibitors like Enalapril, etc. often give allergic reactions. For now stop what you are taking, you may use only diuretics to low blood pressure and Cetirizine to ease allergic symptoms till you contact your doctor for blood pressure therapy changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
