How Can A Surgical Wound After Laparoscopy Be Healed?
Hello, My 59 yr old sister had an appendectomy, laparoscopy, and the main access wound is still too painful for walking or get out of bed. Immediately after surgery they had her walk from the recovery bed to the room bed, without assistance. I found this poor treatment but is there anything she could do? She had such a bad experience that she is afraid to return to that hospital. Thank you
Your sister should always wash her hands with warm water & soap before touching the incision site. Do not wet the incision site while taking a bath, be very careful.
She should avoid doing any heavy work or lift any weight. She should stay relaxed & stress-free.
She should wear loose cotton clothes & get her dressing changed by a nurse every alternate day. It is important to check the dressing for the signs of infection (redness, drainage, pain).
In case she gets a fever, severe pain, vomiting, she should immediately contact her surgeon, she may need medical aid.
Let her take all the medications as prescribed. Stay away from addictions if any.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
