How Can A Snake Bite Be Treated?

I was bitten by a corn snake on February 25th. Symptoms started 2 days later, with red bloody bite site marks. A week later, blisters had been spreading in a circular fashion out from the original site on my middle finger. A week later, the spread had spread. The blisters were spreading in a circle outwards. A doctor 3 weeks later said all was well and said it was contact dermatitis and gave me hydro-cortisone cream. This increased the blisters and pain and I eventually stopped using it. I tried as an experiment to use it on other skin away from the bite mark and got no reaction whatsoever. So I am not allergic to the cream but the cream must have been doing something bad to the bite. I started taking colloidal silver (a natural antibiotic) a few days or a week before going to the doctor, since my spouse, who is African, told me I may have bacteria under the skin. I also started putting pure tea tree oil on the area of the wound, which dried the skin and blisters and seems to really help. I have found out that if I cover with the tea tree oil an area a third of an inch from the existing blister perimeter, it seems to stop the blisters spreading, or limit it to 1-2 new blisters a day. Last night, I forgot to use the tea treee oil ad this morning got up with 8 new blisters. The pattern of spreading is also now different. it is not moving out radially but sideways. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I think I can help you much better if you send me a photo. If the red marks hurt and are swollen and hot they may be infected.

In this case you can use antibiotics cream or even oral antibiotics. Before putting any treatment on them you should be examined by a doctor to see the nature of them if are bacterial, viral or allergic. Use any antihistamines such as Benadryl or Cetirizine to help ease them.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka,
