How Can A Hematoma In The Abdominal Wall Be Treated?

My husband had a purple naval and was suffering with discomfort - had a CT scan which showed he had a n abdominal wall hematoma, initial encounter. Was sent home fromE.R. with literature which suggested it can take up to 4 week for this to dissipate - meanwhile, he has nausea continuously. Is there no other treatment for same?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I am Dr Mittal. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The only other possible management is surgical removal and drainage of the hematoma. It is best to wait for the body to take care of itself usually. Meanwhile you can take symptomatic treatment for symptoms-
1. paracetamol if there is any pain.
2. ondansetron if there is emesis.

However , what really needs to be known is why he developed the hematoma in the first place.
I don't have the history or investigation details for that from your message. So please update us on that.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Get well soon,
Dr Saumya Mittal
