How Can A Deviated Septum Be Treated?

I had surgery for a deviated septum. I have not been able to smell since the surgery two years ago. I was so terrified to have the surgery due to the packing of the nose. I have been researching and is there new surgery procedures that do not need packing?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, septoplasty can be done however with intention to stop post operative bleeding and compression for better structural outcomes I am afraid that nasal packing may be needed. Using local decongestants sprays meanwhile can help symptomatically however surgical intervention may be needed if persistent. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
