How Can A Deep Cut On The Thumb Be Treated?

My husband cut his thumb deeply (chainsaw) and was given cephalexin (sp?) for antibacterial purposes. He is narcoleptic and takes Modafinal and a small amount of dexedrine. He gets white and feels terrible after taking the cephalexin, which we think he has been prescribed before. Suggestions? He was given a pain med but only took that one once.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems you already have shown the wound to your doctor as your husband was on antibiotics.

What symptoms you mentioned are incomplete to explain an allergic reaction to Cephalexin. However, it is quite possible it can be due to Cephalexin. If it is so, other group antibiotics can be prescribed like fluoroquinolones.

You need to visit your doctor to have a detail medical history and review of prescription. Do not take any antibiotic by yourself.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
