Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 70 yrs old n just returned from a 2 week trip to Disney. We drove approx 11 hrs down and I dealt with very swollen legs n feet. I used a scooter mostly walking very little. When I returned home I noticed a huge friction blister on the top of a big toe. It is about 1 inch by 2 inches and has not broken. I need to know how to treat it
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The blister can be due to mechanical trauma of the toe. Some suggestions about the treatment are: -Wash your hands and the blister with soap and warm water. -Swab the blister with iodine. -Sterilize a clean, sharp needle by wiping it with rubbing alcohol. -Use the needle to puncture the blister. -Apply an ointment such as petroleum jelly to the blister and cover it with a nonstick gauze bandage. -Check the area every day for infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
