How Can Graves Disease With Body Temperature And Headaches Be Treated?
I was diagnosed 19 years ago with Graves Disease and had taken radioactive iodine. Lately, I have not being feeling well so I got my family doctor to send me fo blood work and my level were up so he increased my synthroid and through the nights my body temperature rises drastically and wake up with bad headaches. Should I be sent for another thyroid scan it was 19 year since my last one. Can you explain if this is normal. Thank you
Hello, I read concerns and understood your query. At first i would like to inform you that if Graves disease would be activated again, the hormonal result would be suggestive for hyperthyroidism. You reported that the TSH level (checked lately) was suggestive for hypothyroidism and the doctor raised the dose of the synthroid. Probably the dose you are taking now is greater than should be so you may have symptoms of hyperthyroidism caused by the large dose of synthroid. So i would recommend to talk to your treating physician and discuss the possibility of a iatrogenic hyperthyroidism. Kind regards, dr.Mirjeta
