How Can Crohn S Disease Be Treated?

My son has Crohn s disease and his doctor suggested he take Phosphatidylcholine 1-2 tablespoons daily along with 1 mg per day of sublingual Vitamin B12 and 1 mg daily of Folate. Can this help his condition and are there any serious side effects which can happen? He also takes Buspirone 40 mg day along with Paroxitine.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned do take all medications regularly as per your treating doctor's advice. Do few lifestyle modifications like this -

1)Try to limit dairy products. And use an OTC enzyme product such as [Lactaid ]

2)Try low fat foods. So try to avoid butter, margarine, cream sauces and fried foods.

3)Try to limit fiber, if it causes any problem for you.

4)Try to avoid other problem foods like Spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine

5)Try to eat small meals. You may find you feel better eating five or six small meals a day rather than two larger ones.

6)Try to drink plenty of fluids daily. Water is best. Alcohol and beverages that contain caffeine stimulate your intestines and can make diarrhea worse, while carbonated drinks frequently produce gas.

7)Do take one multivitamin caps regularly in bed time.

8)Try to quit smoking to prevent future complications.

9)To manage stress make a plan for regular exercise.

If medication as well as preventive measures does not help you then discuss with your treating Doctor about surgical options like [strictureplasty]

Hope that helps
