How Are Sexually Transmitted Infections Contracted?

I ve had the same sexual partner for a year now and we were both virgins and are exclusively seeing one another. Although we did not get checked for stis, we ve never had any issues. Would it be possible to contract an sti now even though there hasn t been a problem in a year?

Hi,

Noted your query well.
Very logical.
The STD s that is sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis, chancre, HIV, herpes simplex can be contracted only if one of you have unprotected sex with someone else who has these diseases. Hence it is impossible unless you have such contacts.
If you were virgins since first contact and no outside contacts then it is not possible to contract such STD s except when you can get some diseases through blood transfusion if the blood is not checked of the donar or through use of single syringe in many and one of them is infected.
But there is a catch.
If there is s long gap of sexual intercourse it is possible to develop infection in vagina or on penis then there can be STD but this is known to occur in faithful couple in the form of balano-posthitis and vulvo-vaginitis.
Hence do not worry if something like this happens , contact your Doctors to get well treated and you will be fine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
