High Blood Pressure, Urticaria, Hives, Have Headaches, Fatigue And Low Energy Level. Prescribed Coversyl. What Is The Reason?
I am a fit and healthy 45 year old female except that I have been hypertensive since my mid-twenties inherited from both my mother and father. Initially I started on Karveside, then went on to Atacand and then finally on Atacand Plus for many years which seemed to work well keeping me to 140/90. However, recently when I saw my Dermatologist about ongoing urticaria and hives he suggested that I try another type of medication for my high blood pressure as he believes it may be contributing to my skin rashes. Consequently my GP prescribed me Coversyl Plus 2.5mg/0.625mg which was not working and my BP was up to 196/133, so 9 days ago I went back to her and she merely doubled my dose of Coversyl Plus to 5mg/1.25mg. This still is not doing much as I am still averaging about 170/110 which seems too high. Moreover in the last 5 days I have been experiencing bad headaches, referred neck and back of head pain, low energy and fatigue. My Dr told me to give it a fortnight before going back to her but I have already taken two days off work and feel really off. Any thoughts from you would be appreciated. Cheers Jennifer

Previously you were using atacand plus i.e. candesartan + hydrochlorothiadize and this drug developed allergic reaction . These allergic reaction are side effect of this drug.
This drug is ANGIOTENSIN 2 receptor blockers i.e. the group of this drug is different. This was a reason that this drug was acting very well .
Coversyl ( perindopril ) is an ACE inhibitors and this drug in my opinion is a drug of different group , that is the reason that this is not working in your case .
In such type of situation I prescribe telmisartan + hydrochlorothiazide .
Although telmisartan also causes sinusitis but not too serious . Telmisartan rarely causes urticaria and rashes , so you can use this drug after consultation with your treating doctor.
