Hello and thanks for writing in at HCM
I am a jr. to Cardiologist in India. I have a detail view if your mail and wants to clear your queries. There are very less possibility of Hypertension
at the age of 21. As you have explained you are nervous when you go to the doctor's cabin. This nervousness
is the cause of your high blood pressure
and is called "White Coat induced Hypertension". So don't worry about it at all. You can take your own electronic digital BP apparatus and measure your BP at home and I am 100% sure it shows normal value.
But you have Family History and Overweight
than you have to take extra precautions like:
1. Maintain your weight according to your height. Loose your weight if overweight.
2. Don't smoke and if you smoke than stop smoking
3. Check your lipid profile
once in a year
4. Do regular exercise at least once 5 days per week.
5. Avoid Fatty or oily food.
Follow the advises and you will be away for Cardiologist for lifetime.
