Is It Harmful To Keep Nexplanon In My Arm Even After Expiry Until My Insurance Comes Through?

Hello, I have the nexplanon that was supposed to be replaced June 2018. I don’t have insurance and it would cost 1700 through planned parenthood to have it replaced at this point. Is it harmful to keep it in my arm until I have health insurance in January? I understand I would not be protected, just want to know if it is causing harm in the meantime

Hi,

Though Nexplanon may have extended contraceptive effect for a couple of months but if kept it after expiry, it can fail as a contraceptive. I would advise to get it removed and go for other contraceptive like oral contraceptive / barrier contraceptive that is available at government hospitals free of cost, till your insurance is available / the time for planned parenthood arrives.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
