Helll, I was diagnosed with left lobe pneumonia almost a month ago, on the 2nd of September. I was prescribed Augumentin and took it for 5 days instead of 7 days because I got an allergy. By that time I was already feeling well, fever was gone and my dry cough was getting better. Nevertheless, till today I am still expectorating mucus in the morning and sometimes throughout the day. It is mostly shades of yellow (from lighter to dark), but yesterday a part of it came out black. I quit smoking a month ago and I was not exposed to smoke or anything of the kind when this happened (I was mostly in the house). Anyway, I can’t tell if the phelgm comes from the lungs or because of post nasal dripping, as I feel it in the throat. I am still coughing , but not a lot, few short bouts per day. I also feel like a thoracic muscular pain in the back, where my left lung is. Besides this and the bouts of coughing, I don’t have any other symptoms, such as shortness of breath (oxygen saturation 98), maybe only some fatigue. I also had the sputum examined 1 week ago (10 days after the antibiotic) but it came back unsatisfactory for culture because it contained more than 10 scuamos cells and less than 10 inflammatory cells. Two days ago I took again a specimen for testing and now I am waiting for the result. My CRP and infection markers are within normal limits now.
A week ago I did a CT scan and it still showed some inflammation in my left lung. What should I do, considering that I am still expectorating?

I was diagnosed with a very large pneumonia about a month ago in my left upper lobe, I have been on 3 different kinds of antibiotics. I just received a phone call from my doctor with the results from my follow up chest xray and find out that the pneumonia has not gone away and is still about the same size. What should be our next step? She wants to put me on another type of anibiotic.

Yes, I vehad a n respitory infection inially diagnosed as pnuenomoia. Had a chest xray first, results opacity 2cm at upper left lobe with no evidence of pnuemonia. My PCP then ordered 5 day course of zithromax follow up 2nd xray. Results were same. Both xray reports suggested CT scN TO R/O OTHER PROBLEMS, ETC. pCp ordered two weeks of levofloxcin after 2nd xray as she was not convinced that I did not have a bacterial infection. The entire time I was coughing, sneezing and had sever nasal congestion. I had a low grade temperature for the first thre days of the respitatory infection, then normal all the while the coughing etc. continued. A CT scan was then ordered and it revealed that the left lobe opacity was still present, mild reticular densities present at the lung apices and mild reticular opacification at the posteromedial left upper lobe suggestive of chronic fibrosis. There is also a 6mm nodule at theright middle lobe and mild bilateral dependent atelectatic changes. There are reticular and/or fibrotic changes at the lung bases. Finally could you define sclerotic densities at the soft tissues ajacent to the bilateral proximal humeri. I had a follow up PET/CT scan with some radio active substance today which is to r/o malignancy. thank you for any advice, etc. you can give me. Joan Z. Riverhead,NY

My husband is a 78 yr. Old type 1 diabetic. He was diagnosed with double pnemonia 8 days ago. He was given amixi clav and one lung has cleared up. the left lower lobe is still not getting air. He was given 4 additional days of antibiotics totally 2 weeks. Is it normal that one could still be filled. How long is normal for this to get the pnemonia out. Ineed peace of mind.
