Have Symptoms Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Numbness, Tingling In Index Finger. Corticosteroid Does Not Help. What Will Help?

I have symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but my doctor has ruled it out after giving me a couple tests. The numbness and tingling are localized to primarily my index finger and palm and the symptoms began immediately after a difficult mountaineering decent over a month ago. The symptoms have also NOT responded to a Corticosteroid injection in my palm. Should I seek the care of a specialist? If so, what specialty?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

If you are not getting any symptom relief with conservative management including steroid injections, then surgical decompression either by arthroscopy or open method are indicated.

You should approach either an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon for further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
