Have Eustachian Tube Disorder. Clogged Ear, Spasms In Ear, Anxiety, Palpitations. Related Symptoms?

I ve been suffering from ETD (Eustachian Tube Disorder) for the past 7 or so months. Symptom was a clogged/pressure feeling primarily in my left ear, sometimes the right ear as well. It gradually got better over the summer, but about 3 weeks ago it seems to have relapsed and is affecting me again. I am now experiencing a new symptom starting around Nov 4 2013; sudden spasms or pulses of pressure in my ears and sometimes throughout other parts of my head (like between the eyes). These pulses are not severe or painful, and they happen very quickly (each only lasts about .25 of a second), but are disturbing nonetheless and have given me severe anxiety and make sleeping very hard to do. My heart sometimes jumps/palpitates at the same time as these spasms/pulses as well. Time intervals between these spasms/pulses is seemingly random, anywhere from 20-30 seconds or up to 10+ minutes between each one. Is this related to my ETD (my primary says there is some fluid in my middle ear at the moment)? Is it a result of my overwhelming anxiety? My primary doctor and ENT both think it s not something to worry about, but it s been going on for about 5 days now and I would like a second opinion on the matter, since they are interfering with my life and my ability to sleep. They are not very noticeable, sometimes not noticeable at all, when I keep my mind busy, so perhaps it is related to anxiety? I also took nasal flu vaccine on Oct 30 2013, if that could be related at all.

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding recurrent blockade of eustachian tube leading to negative pressure in your middle ear and ultimately fluid in middle ear . this you are facing for last 6 months.

The eustachian tube dysfunction is most of the time is due to chronic infection of upper airway. Therefore here it becomes necessary for you to investigate for -

a- Sinusitis.

b- Tonsilopharyngitis.

c- Nasopharyngeal mass.

All above are possible only by a thorough examination and relevant investigations and finally you will be treated accordingly.
