Have A Large Pimple On Pubic Region. Excreted Pus, Blood. No Sting, Itch. Sexually Clean Partner. STD?

i have what seems to be a large pimple on my pubic region located about an inch from my labia. it popped and excreted both pus and a small amount of blood. i have been seeing only one man (clean) sexually for the last year and a have had this happen to me a few times in the last three months but never before. im worried i may have herpes or an STD although i think (and hope) im overreacting. how can i be sure (other than seeing an OBGYN) that it s in fact nothing to worry about. it is tender to the touch, but doesnt sting or itch. other than regular acne it is also solitary which boosts my confidence in "knowing" it is not herpes.

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

From your description, this seems to be either an ingrown hair or infection of the hair follicle (folliculitis), which is commonly seen in the pubic region.

If it is an ingrown hair, you should stop touching it. Keep warm compresses in the region at least 3-5 times a day for 15 minutes. Take warm water showers (immerse your pubic region under the water) for 15-30 minutes a day. You could also add epsom salt to the water in the bath. An ingrown hair normally finds its way out in a while, nothing more to be done.

It is inflammation of a hair follicle, which takes place due to cracks in the skin, removal of the pubic hair either by shaving, or accidentally pulling it out. Or even from friction caused by the clothing (undergarment). As this region accumulates a lot of sweat over the day, which keeps it moist and helps in growth of bacteria, this can happen easily.
The first thing you will have to do is to wear loose and comfortable clothes (preferably cotton). Do not touch this. Apply warm compresses on the region. Keep the area clean and dry. If it does not subside on its own in 3-7 days (which happens in most cases), then consult a doctor who might prescribe a course of mild antibiotics, that will help in rapid and effective treatment of the same.

Anxiety can be caused in some individuals who constantly suspect STDs, and for this reason I advise you to get yourself screened for all sexually transmitted infections. I am sure you are clean and healthy, so the result will surely allow you to live a more healthy and carefree life.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
