Had Vaginal Bleeding During Pregnancy Due To Blood In Pouch Of Douglas. Is It An Indication Of Possible Miscarriage?
hi i am almost 7 weeks pregnant and i recently had vaginal bleeding i went for a ultrasound the next day and the doctor said the bleeding was due to blood in my pouch of douglas, the ultrasound confirmed a fetus 6mm, yolk sac and heart activity at 121 bmp, i am going for a follow up ultrasound next week..the bleeding has stopped..is it likely i will have a normal pregnancy from here? or does this mean i may have a miscarriage?
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.
Bleeding in the first trimester is very common. The bleeding in the Pouch of Douglas is blood in the pelvis. It got there from the uterus (through the tubes) and not the other way around. Blood came out vaginally and went out the tubes into the pelvis. This was not explained well to you. It is not a sign of a miscarriage in the setting of the normal ultrasound findings. The followup that is arranged is appropriate.
I hope that this helps and good luck!
