Had Tonsillectomy Few Days Back. Safe To Fly? Worried About Pressure On Wounds. Having Codeine

Hi Doctor, I hope you're well.

I had a tonsillectomy 10 days ago, and I'm due to fly in 6 days time (day 16 of my recovery). Is it safe to fly then?

My doctor advised me after the operation it would be fine to fly after 7-10 days, in hindsight I'm surprised as days 7-9 had been my most painful (today I feel slightly better and it looks like only about half of my throat is covered with white patches).

My flight will be approximately 7 hours direct. I worried about any pressure on the wounds, and pain in my ears; although I'm currently cutting my pain medication down, I'm still using codeine and night and the country I'm travelling to codeine is banned.

Looking forward to your advise. Kind regards

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding travelling in air craft after 14 days of operation.

For information I would like to tell you that after tonsillectomy operation only 8 to 10 days are needed for complete recovery if there is no post operative infection.Since your recovery is excellent and devoid of any complication so no need of worry

I hope your travelling will be comfortable, and probably till that time tonsilar fossa will be free of slough so there will be no need of codeine.

I think your query is answered.

Regards.
