Had Meniscal Repair. Have Picc Line Insertion And Infusion Of Antibiotics. Will This Affect My Heart?
I am currently being treated for high blood pressure and have been on medication for past 10+ years. I recently had a meniscal repair of left knee and i am having what doctor believes is an aggressive reaction to the absorbable implants used during surgery. I underwent 2nd surgery to remove 'tabs,' but surgeon was unable to locate them. Now 3 1/2 months later I am still reacting so I've been tested for an infection. Contrast MRI and blood work. No infection has been found, but doctor can not say with any certainty that i don't have an infection. i have been referred to Infectious Disease Dr. who has not seen me yet, but has ordered I have a picc line insertion and infusion of antibiotics. Why effect would this have on my heart, escpecially when I haven't been diagnosed with an infection?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The i.v. infusion of antibiotics is done to avoid any infection in the area of surgery. This is not likely to affect your heart or any other organ. Please do not worry. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. Regards, Dr. Praveen Tayal , drtayal72@gmail.com
