Had Chocolate, Noticed Tiny Crawlers In Wrapper, May Have Swallowed One. What Should Be Done?

I just had an old chocolate Hershey's Nugget that was on my desk and noticed in the wrapper tiny, tiny crawlers....looked like tiny worms. Should I be worried about it being a parasitic "tape like" worm or should it be okay. I spit out the chocolate but am concerned that as tiny as they were I may have swallowed one. What should I do if anything?

Dear patient,

Most likely you will be fine. Usually, such worms are not human parasitic infections and should not cause disease, even more if you did not swallow a significant amount of them; they would likely be broken down by the acid in your stomach.

Yours truly,

Dr Brenes-Salazar MD
