I have a cect chest of my mother 69 it says Lobulated soft tissue mass approx 5.4 * 4.1 cm is seen in the lower lobe of right lung. It shows mild post cintrast enhacement .small hypodense areas are seen in the mass. There is no calcification in it. It is abutting the chest wall with area 3 cm. Pleural tag is seen . A parenchymal band is seen in adjacent lung... What does dis mean in simple language
Hello, Thanks for writing in. As per your report we see a 5.4 x 4.1 cms lobulated mass (something size of a golf ball) in the right lung. Now this mass shows contrast enhancement (means blood supply is good) with hypodense areas (may be fluid or dead tissue component) within. Besides its touching the chest wall from inside.
This can mean many things, from a relatively harmless infective process to an not to be neglected notorious problem. I would suggest you to go to a hospital and get other tests as required by the treating doctor. In this case a FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) would be most confirmatory regarding nature of the mass. This is an office procedure and patient need not stay at hospital.
As for the pleural tag and parenchymal band in adjacent lung, nothing to worry as such. Take care
