Fever, Pain In Lower Body On Right Side. Urine Test Showed Negative For Bacteria. On Sulfamethoxazole To Ward Off UTI. Thoughts?
I've had a fever for the pass three days. I've also developed pain on the lower right hand side of my body (just above the joint where the leg and abdomen meet). I'm taking Sulfamethoxazole to ward off a urinary track infection. Although when I had my urine tested, it came back negative for bacteria.
Do you know what can be causing the dull pain (I feel it whenever I raise my leg such as to go up stairs.) and the fever?
Hi and thanks for the query, It is important to exclude an infectious process. It is however rare for a urinary tract infection to present with leg pain. A critical physical examination needs to be carried out at the level of legs and abdomen. It is not rare tat this could be a psoas muscle abscess. Suplhamethoxazole is used in treating urinary tract infections. However, in your case, absence of urine proof and lack of clinical signs and symptoms do not actually justify its use. A suggest you consult your doctor. Kind regards
