Fever, Insect Bite. Lanced Insect Bite, No Pus. Taken Penicillin

To control a fever in an elderly person (64) who had an insect bite and surgical procedure to lance the insect bite (thinking there was pus in it but there wasn't any pus) should one use? Fever developed 3 days after the lancing. The antibiotic he was put on today (Monday) was 100 mg of penicillin 2 times a day. Today is Monday, the procedure was last Thursday, bite was more than a week before that.

Hi,
Penicillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic and works against many bacterial organisms. A test dose is compulsory before statring a patient on penicillin.

If pus was not found during drainage, there could have been any subacute infection in the inset bite. Some bacteria are penicillin resistant and this must be discussed with your doctor.
A painkiller and serratiopeptidase can be taken to enhance the healing of the wound.

Hope this helps.
Dr Anjana Rao.
