Experienced Premature Heartbeat. Could This Be Stress Induced?

I experienced a premature hearbeat the other day while working. The nurse at school called it premature arterial. She said it was nothing to worry about. I have woke up in the night a couple of times and did have a electrocardiogram. Nothing showed up. Could this be stress induced? My pulse was also 130 at school but of course when this happens I get nervous. Sherry

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
You have abnormal heartbeat, it is normal to have some premature beats usually they go unnoticed.

In case it is atrial premature beat which are usually benign and do not need specific treatment unless there is some cause for it.

You did an ECG which was normal so there should not be any significant heart problem.

It can be caused by stress surely premature beats could be atrial or ventricular in origin.

You should visit Cardiologist and get examined if necessary 2 D echocardiography and cause of fast pulse rate may need investigations like Thyroid function test.

You should avoid stress, excess of tea and coffee and alcohol.
Even yoga and meditation reduce stress.

Hope this helps.
Take care
Good Luck.
