Ear Infection In Child. Scheduled To Have Tubes In And Adenoids Out. Suggestion?
My 2 year old daughter has had a lot of ear infections. She is scheduled to have tubes in and adenoids out. Her doctor says he has never seen a case as bad as hers. He even says that the vessel behind the ear could be enlarged. Because they want the area to appear white, maybe grayish if infected. Hers is black/ purplish. He says he will make a pin hole incision to check for blood before he proceeds with the surgery. Can you tell me anything else about this I'm worried there is more to it that I don't understand.
It is very unusual to find an enlarged blood vessel(jugular bulb) behind the eardrum in a young child. When the ear is infected it will usually appear red or dull brown in colour. If the doctor suspects there is a high jugular bulb behind the eardrum, then he is heading in the right direction. If it is not an enlarged blood vessel then it could be blood clots inside the eardrum secondary to the ear infection, in that case, normal tympanotomy with grommet insertion can be done.
